I can generally be classed as a typical computer science geek and I'm easily spotted by the numerous in-reference t-shirts I parade at work. I've been doing fencing (as in sword not garden) recreationally for a while now but not had much time to compete recently due to work and uni commitments. I'll hopefully get back into it soon.
Most evenings you'll probably find me either at the cinema (abusing my unlimited cineworld card), reading, playing board or computer games with friends, at the pub or having a quiet night in. I'm not exactly the clubbing type.
I'm a particular fan of films along the lines of the Princess Bride, Ghostbusters, Airplane, Hot Shots, Spaceballs and The Naked Gun. TV would include QI, Red Dwarf, Firefly, Stargate, Battlestar Galactica, Family Guy, Futurama, The Simpsons, Scrubs, Father Ted, Police Squad, The IT Crowd and Top Gear. Books will be Douglas Adams, Orson Scott Card, Isaac Asimov, Robert A. Heinlein, Arthur C. Clarke and more recently Iain M. Banks.
Favourite computer games tend to be strategy or FPS games. At the moment that means Dawn of War 2 although looking forward to Civilisation 5 in September. I've found myself playing FPS games for the story lately which means the Modern Warfare series is top of my list; although I'm gutted at what Infinity Ward has gone through recently - chances of a Modern Warfare 3 living up to the first two look pretty slim at the moment. Old time favourites include Elite Frontier, XCOM (UFO:Enemy Unknown) and the half life series.
I'm a fairly keen board gamer too; when I get the chance anyway. Twilight Imperium 3 + the expansion is my current favourite although I also love loads more; The Big Idea, Killer Bunnies, Carcassone and of course classics like Risk.
